In 1930 and 1931, anthropologist Frederick Johnson, then 27 years old, visited seven Mi'kmaw communities in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. During these visits he tool about 200 photographs that are the core of this book. Over the past 4 years, The Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq and the Robert S. Peabody Museum of Archeology have worked together to reproduce Johnson's original images and to create a photographic history of the 20th century Mi'kmaw experience.
